More than 70,000 killed in Gaza since Israel offensive began, Hamas-run health ministry says
More than 70,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of Israel's military campaign in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. The death toll has continued to rise since a ceasefire took effect on 10 October, with Israel carrying out air strikes for what it says are violations of the truce - while bodies continue to be recovered from under the rubble. Among those reportedly killed in an Israeli drone strike on Saturday were two young brothers, Fadi and Juma Abu Assi, whose family said they had been gathering firewood when they were killed. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told the BBC they had struck two suspects who had crossed the so-called yellow line. The line marks where the Israeli military agreed to withdraw to under a ceasefire brokered by the United States more than seven weeks ago.

Israeli strike on Yemen's Houthis reportedly kills eight
Israeli strike on Yemen's Houthis reportedly kills eight The Israeli military says its air force has carried out its most powerful strike in Yemen in response to the Houthi movement's repeated drone and missile attacks on Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said dozens of its aircraft bombed targets belonging to the Houthis' security and intelligence services, and military in the capital Sanaa. The Houthi-run government's health ministry denounced what it called Israel's brutal crime, saying civilian facilities and residential buildings were hit and that eight people were killed. It comes a day after 22 people were injured, two of them seriously, in a Houthi drone attack in the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat. The Houthis have controlled much of north-western Yemen since they ousted the country's internationally recognised government from there 10 years ago, sparking a civil war.

Strikes on Qatar, Poland shake U.S. sway among friend and foe
Strikes on Qatar, Poland shake U.S. sway among friend and foe U.S. President Donald Trump speaks at the Museum of the Bible in Washington on Sept. 8. Israeli strikes in Qatar and Russian drone incursions into Poland have challenged the U.S. leaders claims of global respect. The shock Israeli strike against Hamas officials in Doha, followed by Russian drones piercing the airspace of NATO ally Poland, delivered twin blows to President Donald Trump's longtime boast that friends and foes respect the U.S. under his leadership like never before. Trump voiced unhappiness with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for sending warplanes to attack the capital of Qatar, a major U.S. ally, but has otherwise resisted getting more involved. He has declined to denounce Russia's drone incursion into Poland, saying Thursday it could have been a mistake but regardless I'm not happy about anything having to do with that whole situation." Trump's removed attitude contrasts sharply with his repeated claims about his unique ability to solve the world's intractable conflicts. While he has conceded that Russia's war in Ukraine -- which he once pledged to resolve on his first day back in office -- has been more difficult than anticipated, he recently said President Vladimir Putin wants to make a deal for me."

US joins UN Security Council condemnation of Israeli strikes on Qatar
The United Nations Security Council has condemned Israel's strikes on a residential compound in the Qatari capital Doha, which targeted senior members of Hamas. The statement - which did not directly name Israel - was backed by all 15 Security Council members, including the US, which traditionally blocks actions against its close ally. Council members underscored the importance of de-escalation and expressed their solidarity with Qatar, read the statement, drafted by the UK and France. Israel defended its decision to mount the attack. Qatar has played a key role in brokering diplomatic efforts to end the Israel-Gaza war, serving as a mediator of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.

Israeli drone attacks in southern Lebanon kill one, injure several people
Israel has carried out four drone attacks on towns in southern Lebanon, resulting in a death and several injured, in the latest wave of near-daily Israeli violations of the November ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah. An "Israeli enemy drone attack on a vehicle" in the Saf al-Hawa area in the city of Bint Jbeil "killed one person and wounded two others", Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health said in a statement on Saturday carried by the official National News Agency (NNA), noting the toll was expected to rise. A second attack in the Bint Jbeil area followed. Earlier Saturday, the ministry also reported that a separate Israeli drone attack wounded one person in Shebaa, with the NNA saying that raid hit a house. Shebaa is located across two steep, rocky mountainsides that straddle Lebanon's borders with Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon kill three people
Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon on multiple vehicles have killed three people as attacks continue despite a November ceasefire with the armed group Hezbollah. Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health said on Saturday that one person was killed in an "Israeli enemy" drone strike on a car in the village of Kunin while two others were killed after an Israeli strike on a motorcycle in Mahrouna, near Tyre. The Israeli army claimed that the attack on the car "eliminated the terrorist Hassan Muhammad Hammoudi", who it said was responsible for antitank missile attacks on Israeli territory during the recent war. The latest Israeli attacks came a day after Israel killed a woman and wounded 25 people in attacks across southern Lebanon. Lebanon's National News Agency reported that the woman was killed in an Israeli drone strike on an apartment in the city of Nabatieh.

Tasnim News said operational and rescue forces arrived at the scene and are still working to extinguish the fire.

Israeli drone strikes kill four people in southern Lebanon
Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health has said that at least four people have been killed in two separate Israeli strikes in south Lebanon, as Israel claimed it struck Hezbollah operatives. Thursday's strikes were the latest in a series of deadly attacks in south Lebanon, despite a November ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah after more than a year of hostilities, including two months of open war. An "Israeli enemy strike on a car in Yohmor al-Shaqeef led to the death of three people", said a Health Ministry statement reported by the National News Agency (NNA) on Thursday. The NNA said an "enemy drone" targeted a vehicle near the town, in a strike that came at the same time as artillery shelling. Elsewhere, the Israeli military said in a statement that "several Hezbollah terrorists were identified transferring weapons in the area of Yohmor in southern Lebanon", adding that the army "struck the terrorists".
